Product Description
The VumaChrono crankset is a breakthrough in terms of aerodynamics but it wouldn't have been possible without all the advances of the VumaQuad, the world's lightest crankset at 580 grams. That feathery figure includes crankarms, 50/34 chainrings, bottom bracket, and all the bolts and hardware, yet the VumaQuad cruised through CEN's rigorous testing and is 33% stiffer than the next-lightest crankset on the market.
To achieve this, we started with a 110mm, four-arm bolt pattern with the fourth bolt built into the crankarm. The NoNuts system uses larger diameter bolts that thread directly into the small chainring, increasing thread engagement and strengthening the crankarm-chainring interface. As an added bonus, the VumaQuad allows you to switch between Zipp's compact 50/34 and standard 53/39 chainring setups, both of which have been specially designed for use with the VumaQuad.
The 30mm aluminum spindle design, a first for external bearing cranksets, is stiff, durable, and compatible with the emerging BB30 bottom bracket standard.
But what's strength without smoothness? We've spec'd American-made steel bearings two-and-a-half times rounder than the industry standard and used the world's most expensive grease. If that's not slick enough for you, we also offer the roundest ceramic bearings in the industry. The VumaQuad is compatible with 68mm bottom bracket shells with English or 70mm Italian threading, and is designed for Zipp external bottom bracket cups.
